And that's the last page of our inaugural 6-page update. Welcome to the League of Fonts, you guys! I'm so happy you're here, and I hope you'll stick around to read more of my wacky new webcomic about fonts. You can go to the cast page at the top of this site to learn a little bit more about Times New Roman and Futura. (Don't worry, this is the only time you'll ever have to see TNR shirtless. Which is good, because drawing that ONCE was quite enough for me, thank you).
From now on, each update will be only 1 page long. I wish I could post one of these monster 6 page updates every week, but these things take forever to draw, you guys. I'd have to draw in my sleep to be able to post so frequently! Or I could, you know, make my pages less complicated. But I'm a perfectionist, sooooo... that's probably not happening. So anyway, next week on The League of Fonts: a page that is, actually, not about fonts at all. Oops. Tune in on Wednesday! |

Also, I've been reading your Chapel comic for a while now, and have been checking in periodically to see if you updated. I'm thrilled about this new series, and I'm so glad you're better so you can share your amazing personality and your talents with us!

Font size won't be dealt with, because each font is drawn at a standard size and then just scaled up and down for people on computers. The only element of font size that is important in the story is the differing "heights" of various fonts - some have letterforms that are much taller, while others are more squat. This is, you'll see, reflected somewhat in their personifications.
What about other elements such as italicizing and bold. Will that play any part? This whole idea of living fonts is just so neat. There's so much you can do with it. Can't wait to see where it goes.
Now, if you haven't filled out the entire Cast of Characters, may I suggest a couple of "my favorites that aren't everybody else's favorites": the big blocky sans Eurostile, the pseudo-monocase of mary-tyler-moore fame Peignot and (if the League needs a librarian, the perfect candidate) Bookman (but remember, there's a serious difference between the Microsoft-supported Bookman Old Style and the 1970s' ubiquitously decorative Bookman Swash). You can tell I'm going to be following this closely and enjoying every page.
I've already scripted the entire run of this comic - the script is over 200 pages right now - so I already know who the main cast of characters are! Most of the main characters are more popular fonts simply because I wanted viewers to be able to recognize them more easily, but there's a big cast of side characters that use less popular fonts! Bookman is already one of those, actually, but I'll keep Peignot and Eurostile in mind for smaller background characters! I love the idea of Peignot being a librarian, actually, so if she crops up one day it'll be in that capacity for sure!
I'm so happy to hear you've been enjoying this so far, and that you seemingly get as much enjoyment from geeking out over fonts as I do. :)
